Los Angeles eaters, perhaps you heard about the new bill regarding green waste? Since we’re passionate about healthy food from the ground-up, we are all behind this new bill SB1383 that supports composting while diverting food waste.
Beginning in 2022, SB 1383 requires every jurisdiction to provide organic waste collection services to all residents and businesses1. This bill will hopefully yield a greater impact by now collecting from schools, businesses and multi-family housing in addition to single family residences. This waste will be composted which will not only keep food out of landfills but will also then help regenerate soil.
“Compost is a key to healthy soil, and healthy soil is critical to reducing carbon in the air. Keeping recyclable and compostable materials out of the garbage is an excellent first step toward cost savings and improved operational efficiency.”1
